If a watt is measured in joules per second, a kilowatt measures 1000 joules per second. A kilowatt is a unit of power, and, like the watt, indicates the power of an electrical source. For example, a hair dryer may have 1,000 watts of power, which makes it more powerful than a hair dryer that is only 500 watts.
