Lillooet, British Columbia awarded $4.5 Million from Federal Tax Fund to Upgrade Water Supply

Known as "BC's little nugget" for its gold rush days back in 1858, the district of Lillooet, British Columbia is being awarded $4.5 Million (CAD) from the Federal Canadian government Gas Tax Fund to further develop its clean drinking water supply.

The first stage of this construction project will be set in the region of Seton Fan, where a UV treatment station, high lift pumps, a new water main, and new water meters will be installed in all residential properties in the local municipality.

The goal of these upgrades is to supply fresh, safe and clean drinking water to the residents of Lillooet, British Columbia and secure its quality for the future. Ida Chong, B.C. Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development, stated, "These are important water system upgrades and mean so much to the resident of Lillooet."

Lillooet has plans to build a new in-take which will draw water from the existing BC Hydro Canal intake, in addition to a new lift station and filtration plant, which will begin construction upon the completion of phase one currently in effect.

Lillooet Mayor Dennis Bontron, added, "Lillooet will also invest funding for job creation in our local economy", thanks to the funding of phase one of this water project.

In addition to this newly announced construction project, the district of Lillooet, BC, has recently completed a installation of new wood burning boilers at the Lillooet Community Centre, also from the Canadian federal Tax Fund of $467,000.00 (CAD). These new wood burning boilers are estimated to reduce propane use by 87%.
