Bird Construction to Build New Hockey Arena for the Moncton Wildcats

This past October 2nd, 2015, Bird Construction had signed an agreement to design and build a new hockey arena for the Moncton Wildcats hockey team. The firm also areed to short-term finance the project in the Moncton Downtown Centre, in New Brunswick.

The 108 Million (CAD), 250,000 square foot Moncton Downtown Centre arena is designed to include a single full sized NHL hockey rink, as well as over 9,000 permantely installed seats, private suite boxes, a club lounge and also a multi use outdoor plaza which will include an outdoor skating rink.

The arena and facility will be the home of the Moncton Wildcats hockey team of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

The facilities 9,000 plus seats will also accomodate other special events.

Bird Construction stated the site development will begin this fall season 2015, with the full construction schedule to start up this spring of 2016.

The new Moncton Wildcats Downtown Centre arena grand opening is expected to be on September 1, 2018.

Moncton city council has already approved the arena project and voted to award the contract to build and operate the facility to Bird Capital.

Bird Capital is a partnership comprised of Bird Construction, SMG Canada, Stantec Architecture, Populous and BDA Landscape Architects.
