Canadian Solar has been a big player in the solar power industry since its inception, in 2001. Founded in Guelph, Ontario, Canada, the firm now has offices all over the world including Spain, Italy, Germany, China, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Singapore, Australia, Israel, South Africa, and the U.S.A. In 2006, the firm went public trading on the NASDAQ (CSIQ), being a provider of solar solar PV modules, wafer, ingot, solar cells, solar power systems and other various vertical solar applications.

Canadian Solar's main manufacturing plant is located in China, however, in 2011 the firm opened a manufacturing facility in Ontario. Several hundred workers are employed in the Ontario plant which has been producing over 200 Mega Watts per year.

To expand their operations further in Canada, Canadian Solar has been awarded a $104 Million (CAD) development loan by the Deutsche Bank AG to build 3 additional solar farm facilities in Canada. The 3 power plants will will produce a total capacity of 30 Mega Watts, and construction of the facilities will begin and continue through out 2014.
