Canalta Hotels to Expand into Selkirk Manitoba

The Manitoba marketplace is about to see yet another boost with the expansion of Canalta Hotels in Selkirk.

Canalta Hotels is a family owned and operated hotel chain that has been in business for over 35 years. The chain has a total of thirty eight hotels in the province of Saskatchewan and Alberta. Canalta has announced they will be building a eighty four room hotel within the Selkirk Crossing Power Center, located on the west-side outer area of the city. The hotel is scheduled to open in the summer of 2014 and is Canalta's first hotel to open in Manitoba.

The new Canalta Hotel will be Selkirk's largest hotel and will include a swimming pool, conference hall, 84 rooms, and is the first large scale hotel to have been built in Selkirk for a number of years. Neighboring shops include Canadian Tire, Mark's Work Wearhouse, Walmart, Boston Pizza, Dollarama, and the 3,500 seat capacity Selkirk Arena, among several others.

Canalta has a keen interest in expanding more into Manitoba and is actively scouting out a number of new locations with brokerage/development firm Shindico, with the new Selkirk hotel being only the first.

Since the recession of 2008 - 2009, other large brand name stores are commencing with their development projects in Selkirk, such as the Real Canadian Superstore.

All in all the economy in Selkirk is on an upswing.
