A major fire broke out at the Poley Mountain Ski Resort in New Brunswick, yesterday December 9, 2014 at 6:40 in the evening.

The Royal Mounted Canadian Police (RCMP) said the call came in at about 6:40 p.m.

At approximately 10 p.m. RCMP Constable Jullie Rogers Marsh stated the fire was successfully squelched, although there were a few hot spots still present and in the process of being put out.

Thankfully, although no one was injured or hurt in the fire, the resorts main building is completely destroyed with estimated damages totaling $3 million (CAD), reported General Manager Bill Anderson.

The local fire marshal was contacted and they are still trying to find the cause of the fire.

The ski resort is located in Sussex, New Brunswick and employs around 180 part time and full time employees during the ski season.

Poley Mountain had plans to open for the ski season this coming Friday, but it was announced on Twitter before the fire that the season opening would be delayed until December 19.

New Brunswick Premier Brian Gallant shared his thoughts about the fire on Twitter, Tweeting: "Saddened to see the loss of the iconic Poley Mountain lodge this evening, a true loss to N.B."
