Habitat for Humanity Starts Womens Build Project with 12 New Homes in Saskatoon

Habitat for Humanity of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, has officially launched a project with a new initiative with their new "Womens Build" initiative.

A ground breaking ceremony was held in the city to mark the beginning of construction of twelve new Habitat for Humanity homes. Habitat for Humanity representatives, local Saskatchewan Government officials, construction participants, and local residents attended the ceremony.

Barb Cox-Lloyd, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Saskatoon, stated, "We are really excited to start construction of these 12 units.".

"This is also the site of our 2016 Women Build, which will bring together dedicated women from Saskatoon and area to ensure that families have a safe, affordable home.", she added

The City of Saskatoon is providing approximately $295,000 (CAD) in financial grants and tax abatements, while the Provincial government of Saskatchewan is providing $65,000 (CAD) through the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation towards the project.

Saskatchewan Education Minister Don Morgan stated, "Owning a home is a life changer." He added, "that working with partners like Habitat for Humanity helps make the dream of home ownership for Saskatchewan families in need a reality."

Saskatoon Mayor Don Atchison said that "every family deserves a safe, clean place to call home," and partnering with Habitat for Humanity helps to "build great communities."

Other partners in Habitat for Humanity's Womens Build project include Global Media.

The projects twelve townhouse styled homes will range in size from 920 square feet to 1,480 square feet and will included a finished basement based on family requirements, size and composition. The new development will be located at 211 Slimmon Road in the neighbourhood of Lakewood.
