This past Thursday at the CPR Pavilion in Calgary, Home Depot Canada made an official announcement on its plans for its first ever Rapid Deployment Centre in Western Canada which will be located at the Dufferin North Industrial Park in SE Calgary.

The mega-chain stated that through the construction stages and opening the deployment centre will create over 150 new jobs for the local community.

The company added that the new RDC will provide the appropriate stock flow to their stores across Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

To be located in Shephard industrial region of the city at 6325 106th Avenue SE, the new deployment centre will be 425,000 square feet in size and will utilize Canadian Pacific Railway system to ensure a fast flow of products directly to 70 Home Depot locations across Western Canada.

The centre is being built right along side the firms existing 640,000 square foot Stocking Distribution Centre, also presently under construction. In Vaughan, Ontario, Home Depot Canada opened their first Rapid Deployment Centre to service their stores in Eastern and Central Canada, earlier in the year.

The president of The Home Depot Canada, Bill Lennie stated that the company presently has 70 retail outlets in Western Canada with 27 located in Alberta and 10 located in the Calgary region.

Lennie added that the company had gone through an extensive research process for flow of freight, logistics, operating costs, and the right community to do business in. And with all these factors considered, Calgary was the ideal location for the new facility.

The Rapid Deployment Centre construction has begun and it is expected to be wrapped up and open by December 2015. The Stocking Distribution Centre is estimated to be completed a short time later.

Mayor of Calgary Naheed Nenshi happily welcomes Home Depot's Rapid Deployment Centre, and added that the city had originally developed the Dufferin North Industrial Park to suit projects just like this that require close proximity to major transportation hubs.

President of of Calgary Economic Development, Bruce Graham said Home Depot's new facility is a massive step forward solidifying the City of Calgary's spot as Western Canada's logistics and transportation hub.
