A few neighborhoods of Lynn Valley in North Vancouver, B.C. have been evacuated after the Hastings Creek banks overflowed and flooded the neighborhood.

The floods worst hit area was Fromme and Croft Road and Argyle Secondary School, which had rain water pouring through the doors and in throughout the school hallways and classrooms. Fire crews were forced to evacuate over 15 homes.

Aside from damages caused by the flash flood, fire fighters and the R.C.M.P. have been responding to reports of huge boulders and rocks falling down the mountain side and onto the roads close to the 1000 block of Kilmer Road. This area was also evacuated as a safety precaution.

All available fire crews from the City of Vancouver and West Vancouver were called out to assist in the flooding relief and emergency officials opened the Emergency Operations Centre at E-Comm in Vancouver in response to the natural disaster.

With over 86 millimetres of rainfall battering the North Shore spanned over a 24 hour period, the storm front also caused a torrential rainfall and flooding across Metro Vancouver. The flooding across metro Vancouver were caused by drainage culverts blocked by leaves and various debris, as well as, the ground being over saturated and unable to absorb any more water.

The public has been advised by government officials to avoid washed out areas close to creeks, rivers, and drainage culverts in the area.

Now that the heavy rainfall warning has ended, clean up of the area has begun and Argyle Secondary School will remain closed for a minimum of one more day.
