A 35 year old Abbotsford women working as a flag person at a construction site near the Langley Bypass and Glover Road in Langley, BC, was struck by a train and dragged 30 metres across the tracks.
The woman was taken to hospital via helicopter and is being treated with serious conditions earlier this morning.
The flag woman had her work truck parked directly on the track and noticed a train approaching from a distance. Making a judgement call, thinking she had enough time to move her vehicle, the women raced to her work truck and attempted to drive it off the tracks and to safety. Without enough time, and with a loud screech of the train brakes attempting to stop, the north-bound train crashed into her vehicle and dragged it 30 metres down the tracks where it further smashed into a BC Hydro transformer box.
Wreckage from the work truck was scattered across the train crossing and surrounding area.
The Glover Road/Highway 10 crossing was closed as the Langley Township Fire Department, Langley RCMP and paramedics arrived at the accident scene and extracted the flag-person from her vehicle, then to hospital via emergency helicopter, where she is being treated in serious condition.
